Life for teen ‘murderer’ – who didn’t fire the bullet

A teenager has been jailed for life after a “Wild West” shootout with another youth resulted in the death of a Polish woman.

Armel Gnango, 18, denied murdering 26-year-old nursing assistant Magda Pniewska, and, it transpired, did not fire the bullet which killed her.

But he was found guilty for causing her death and the attempted murder of another youth.

Gnango was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court today, and faces a minimum of 20 years in prison.

Gnango did, however, plead guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon.

In scenes reminiscent of the Wild West, Magda was to become the innocent victim of a gunfight by two total strangers – Brian Altman QC

Gnango was responsible for the killing because he was involved in the gunfight, said the QC.

A second youth, named by Gnango but who denied being involved, was arrested but not charged due to lack of evidence.
